Copper,Vitreous Enamel

16” long x 1.5” wide

Enseñando el cobre (Showing Your True Colors) draws on the Spanish expression used to describe revealing one’s true nature. In this piece, enamel is intentionally removed to expose the copper beneath. Often regarded as less precious than gold or silver, copper is nevertheless indispensable, present in countless aspects of daily life despite its humble status. The exposed metal becomes a metaphor for authenticity and self-acceptance. The work reflects on the pressure to present ourselves as something more desirable, valuable, or socially acceptable, while reminding us that our worth does not depend on appearances or status. Like copper, we do not need to become something else to have value; we are enough as we are.
