As immigrants navigate new cultures, there is often pressure to assimilate and distance oneself from the things that mark us as different. Con la cabeza en alto reclaims the phrase “traer el nopal en la frente,” transforming a derogatory expression into a symbol of pride. The work encourages the wearer to carry their culture visibly and confidently, crowning themselves with the heritage, traditions, and histories passed down by their ancestors. Rather than concealing these markers of identity, it celebrates them as sources of strength, beauty, and belonging.
